Weekly Report & Reflection #5

This week in our Learning in a Digital environment class, we learned explored the world of social media by using Twitter to connect and share with our classmates. We sent out some tweets of articles from our Feedly to get us acquainted with the ins and outs of Twitter as a useful digital tool. I have had Twitter for a few years and was quite experienced with the basic such as editing my profile, sending tweets and following other accounts to keep up with what is happening in the world. During this session of our online class, I learned how to use Twitter for creating a "list" of accounts that are connected to our online class (either peers or other accounts that we saw fit). I had never used Twitter to create a list, but it is an effective way to organize the people you follow so you can quickly get information about a specific topic in one place without having to scroll through your feed. As I continued to look through my Feedly for articles that I though would be relatable to our course material, I came across a link for tips and trick for Twitter that I thought would be extremely helpful for people new to Twitter or anyone looking to polish their skills.

Twitter is a unique tool that has changed the digital world and the way in which we find our news today. It has allowed people to connect with journalists and analysts in a way that didn't seem possible before the age of social media. Twitter will allow me to communicate and share information with my peers and build my knowledge on any topic at any time. Searching for certain hash tags can allow me to find either top or all tweets about a certain topic all across Twitter.

When I created my personal learning environment, I included Twitter under the “connect” section of my diagram. Looking back now, the improvement I would make to my PLE would be to expand the Twitter icon to also be included in the “convenience” web as it has brought all the news happening around the world to everyone in a moments notice.

Twitter can improve my ability to be an effective digital citizen by allowing me to share my knowledge with my follower and also people that I have never met by using hash tags successfully. I hope to continue to build my learning environment through various digital mediums in the future! I hope you will continue to learn with me by following my Twitter account here.
